We are called to live in allegiance to Jesus Christ as faithful members of the Church,
in imitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary and under her patronage,
to seek union with God by way of contemplation and apostolic activity
for service to the Church,
to give particular importance to prayer and the Liturgy of the Church,
to infuse prayer and life with apostolic zeal in imitation of Elijah,
to live the evangelical counsels in the spirit of the Beatitudes,
to give importance to the commitment to evangelization...
faithful to our Teresian Carmelite identity.
(Constitutions of Discalced Carmelite Secular Order)
We are a community of Secular Order Discalced Carmelites located in Cincinnati, Ohio, and canonically established at Saint Teresa of Avila Church, 1175 Overlook Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio 45238. We exist to provide formation for Roman Catholic lay people and diocesan clergy who are called to live a life of Carmelite spirituality in the world and within the context of a community. Our monthly meetings are held in Avila Hall at the address above. Members are those who are at least 18 years of age and are faithful, practicing Catholics in good standing
with the Roman Catholic Church. We hold monthly formation classes, including the following: a Visitor's Class for those who wish to visit and learn more about Carmelite spirituality and our way of life, an Aspirancy Class, formation classes for Temporary and Definitive Promises, and an ongoing seminar for fully professed members. If you are interested in more information about the Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites or our Cincinnati community, please contact our president, Mrs. Edie Bennett at 513-324-1275.
